MUSIC BREATHES LIFE INTO MENTAL HEALTH

DJ Editorial Spark has combated Complex PTSD for many years now and has used his story of living with Mental Health Disability to publicise this unseen illness. He writes regularly on a local, regional, national basis to highlight and raise awareness of MHD. He is part of the exciting new COMMUNITIES EMBRACING MENTAL HEALTH (CEMH) initiative which has just been unveiled in this region. As a Champion for TIME-TO-CHANGE he recently gave a live interview about Living with PTSD with Steven Thompson from Norwich based BIG Daddy PR. This can be viewed in the video section on his campaign page.

He has now set out to raise £250,000 for Mental Health Disability projects in the Waveney constituency. This challanging and inspiring project has already attracted the personal endorsements of numerous heavyweights campaigning for MHD. He is currently also writing a hard-hitting autobiography of his life experience; entitled A DYING OF THE LIGHT. Already a bestselling author, this new publication coming out in 2018/19 is certain to not only help raise awareness of MHD but raise a massive amount of funding as well; 50% of the book profits are being donated to his campaign.

From tough childhood to a successful 30-year career on stage as an award-winning DJ, an innovative designer of projects for the disabled, ground breaking environmental concepts, rising to compete in his chosen sport from club and county to national championships and beyond, also publishing three novels, he has had an incredible journey through life. Tragically this turned to catastrophe with the loss of everything, home, career, livelihood, health and so much more at the end of the last decade. Following the inspirational appeal from Bob Geldof he spent a year organising a 30-tonne aid convoy and travelled to Africa with the British Army to work in the slums regions during the Horn of Africa humanitarian famine crisis. Those three years of 'Living Hell' left him with Severe PTSD and his world in ruins.

For five long years he has not yet been able to talk about the shocking and traumatic experiences that entirely unravelled his life. Now, with the tremendous support of family and friends, the NHS Crisis Care team, specialist therapists, our MP and so many more, he has finally begun taking the first steps along a long road to recovery. Music and writing have previously played a major part of his life and it is these implements he now reaches out with to rebuild the foundation of his recovery.

With the incredible and generous support of the staff and management of The Oak Tavern, his local pub and ‘safehouse’ he recently embarked on the greatest step forward to date. Returning to the stage for the first time in seven years he is hosting twenty mini music gigs during 2018/19 as part of this Mental Health Disability fundraising campaign. These specialist events by one of the countries former leading and inspired DJ’s has already attracted a lot of interest from followers old and new.

As well as fundraising for local Mental Health Initiatives, he has never forgotten the camaraderie and courage of his colleagues in the British Army during his work alongside them whilst on attachment as a civilian volunteer. In recognition of his late father (R.A.S.R. 3rd Bat) and his comrades from the Royal Anglian Suffolk Regiment Paul will be supporting those from the military services in our constituency who suffer from MHD trauma as a result of serving in the dangerous and life-threatening climates around the world.

His campaign pages have attracted the attention of thousands of visitors and hundreds of followers who share their own personal experiences of Mental Health Disability.

Those 30+ years on stage living the dream during those incredible life changing and inspiring eras were unforgettable. From the fabulous swinging Mod and Flower Power Sixties through all the decades that brought us first Soul & Funk, then Alternative, Goth and Punk, then the wildly happy anthemic Trance,Techno, House, Rave days now affectionately known as Old Skool. Also throughout that forty-year period there was the constant renaissance of Classic Rock in all its fabulous forms.

Through the recent years so many people from those eras have told me how much they missed the sensational and inspirational music from their ‘lost generation’ and how they would love to revisit those music memories. Many of the original DJ’s have gone, retired, or lost but fondly remembered, whilst a vast majority of the modern DJ’s have little interest in the past.

I have never forgotten, nor lost my passion for, real music, therefore I decided to use my vast experience of the past decades to revisit them in specialist themed nights. With thousands of tracks to fondly refer to, I proudly now present the opportunity to relive the past.

I LOVE THE SIXTIES

The incredible decade that shaped the music world, these were the years that set the scene alight. With the cultures of Mods, Rockers, Hippies and so much more, the music was vibrant and passionate. How can you sum up the talented individual genres with groups like the Beatles, Who, Kinks, Rolling Stones, Manfred Mann, Beach Boys, Franki Valli, Dave Clark Five, Small Faces, another with the likes of the Doors, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, the Northern Soul/Motown explosion with Dobie Gray, Four Tops, Supremes, Isley Brothers, Velvettes, Temptations, Robert Knight, R Dean Taylor, Edwin Starr then add in the still ever favourable Rock’n’ Roll influences, Bobby Vee, Del Shannon, Dion & the Belmonts, Elvis Presley, Chubby Checker, Everly Brothers, Roy Orbison, the Flower Power era, Traffic, Move, Scott McKenzie, John Lennon, Gary Puckett, Jimi Hendrix, Mama’s & Papa’s, etc and then realise this is THE decade that truly rocked the world.
